Peter Woodbury, MSW
Peter’s spiritual journey began in childhood. He was very close to his maternal grandmother, who lived to be 107! In today’s language, his grandmother would be called a medium. In that relationship, he developed a life-long curiosity about the powers of the mind and the ability to communicate beyond the five senses. He first learned about Edgar Cayce while in college, but it wasn’t until after graduate school that he, “by chance”, attended a lecture given by a renowned theologian and psychologist. The speaker spoke about his time with Edgar Cayce. That man was Harmon Bro. This was the spark for Peter’s deep interest in Edgar Cayce ever since.
As a teenager, Peter loved the works of Carlos Castaneda and dreamed of becoming a shaman. When he approached a shaman to become a student, he was turned away. He later learned that was just a test. Peter now considers himself a “shaman” of sorts, because different from Edgar Cayce, who gave in trance readings, Peter guides his clients to “cross behind the veil” and give themselves their own in trance reading, be it a past life memory, an in-between lives experience, entering of healing spaces, contact with the deceased, contact with guides, meeting with the council, among many other possibilities.
Peter has been teaching hypnosis and regression successfully over the past three years at the Edgar Cayce ARE. He travels around the world speaking on behalf of this work and conducting group and individual sessions. Peter conducts hundreds of regressions a year and must be one of the most active conductors of this work in the world today. He is a regular writer for the Venture Inward magazine and has become the best attended field speaker for the Edgar Cayce ARE. He is known for his intelligence, compassion, ability to render complex material accessibly and his sense of humor. And as such a prolific conductor of regressions, he is able to teach from the place of current experience, which is so valuable in a teacher who is also a practitioner.
Peter attended Harvard University and received his degree in psychology in 1983. He later attended Boston University School of Social Work and graduated in 1991. Following Peter’s award winning success as a psychotherapist, he was invited to join the faculty at Boston University School of Social Work instructing in the counseling program. He taught at BU for three years, but felt called to leave Boston and move to Virginia Beach to pursue his dream of becoming part of the Edgar Cayce ARE.
He moved here 12 years ago, and has become an indispensable part of the fabric of the institution. He studied Past Life Regression with Alan Chips at the ARE, studied hypnotherapy with renowned clinician and teacher, Daniel Brown, Ph.D. (author of 14 books on psychotherapy and hypnosis), and finally with Dr. Brian Weiss, the renowned psychiatrist and author of the best-selling “Many Lives, Many Masters”. Three years ago, Peter took over the teaching of the Edgar Cayce ARE Past Life Regression Course and it has been selling out ever since.
Atlantic University has been recruiting Peter for many years, and is pleased to announce that they have been able to bring this luminary in the field into the Atlantic University circle. We are most certain you will be well served under the tutelage of Peter Woodbury, MSW.
